French toast is hands down one of my favourite breakfast treats. What tastes better then spoiling yourself with golden fluffy toast, sprinkled with maple syrup and powdered sugar?!
The most crucial ingredients to a restaurant quality french toast but also happens to be a common mistake, is the bread. Brioche bread is the best selection for french toast. It is rich, buttery, fluffy, very light and soaks the maple syrup right up. It is well worth a trip to the store for this recipe. You can substitute Challah bread if you can not find Brioche.
-1 loaf of lemon vanilla challah or brioche bread (Cut into 1 inch slices).
-1/2 cup milk ( or milk substitute almond milk coconut milk)
-1/2 teaspoon of vanilla powder or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
-zest of a lemon
-1 teaspoon of cinnamon
-2-3 Tablespoons of maple syrup
-In a bowl mix together all the above ingredients.
-Dip the bread slices in the mixture. Please ensure it soaks it up.
-Heat a large skillet over medium heat.
-Melt some butter or coconut oil into the pan.
-Once pan is hot begin to cook the slices. Flip once browned on each side.
-Serve on a plate and top with organic maple syrup, fresh berries, sprinkle with coconut and powdered sugar.
-You can add coconut cream or whipped cream to top it off. Enjoy .
